Sorrento healthcare sees new hospital director and port first aid service
Healthcare services in the Sorrento Peninsula are undergoing administrative and operational changes. Maria Manganaro has been appointed as the new director of the unified hospital facility serving Sorrento and Vico Equense. Her five-year term follows a public competition process formalized by the Napoli 3 Sud Local Health Authority. Manganaro faces significant challenges, including chronic staffing shortages of doctors and nurses, as well as logistical difficulties in attracting professionals to the region due to high living costs.
In addition to hospital leadership changes, a new first aid station has been activated at the Marina Piccola port area in Sorrento. The service, provided by the Croce Bianca volunteer organization, includes an equipped ambulance and a crew consisting of a driver-rescuer and a nurse. The station will operate daily from 8:00 to 19:00 through October 31.
