Sorrento Peninsula faces traffic chaos due to landslides
The Sorrento Peninsula is facing significant transportation disruptions due to geological instability and recent weather events. Heavy rainfall has caused mud and debris to flood the Pozzano Gallery, leading to its partial closure.
As a result, traffic has been diverted back to the old coastal road. However, this detour has been compromised by new rockfalls, causing widespread traffic congestion and highlighting the ongoing vulnerability of the region's infrastructure. Despite decades of work and significant state investment, the area remains susceptible to being cut off by single geological incidents.
