Sorrento Peninsula observes religious revivals and new coastal planning

The Sorrento Peninsula is observing significant religious and cultural traditions. In Sorrento, the historic procession of the Statue of the Sacred Heart of Mary has returned after a 30-year hiatus. The event, driven by the initiative of Don Mario Cafiero, features a wooden sculpture by the artist Citarelli that symbolizes the bond between the Virgin Mary and the city.

In Meta, preparations are underway for the celebration of the Madonna del Lauro. Local historian Professor Ciro Ferrigno has highlighted the cultural significance of the event, recounting the legend of the golden chicks and the sacred wooden statue that defines the local devotion.

Additionally, the municipality of Meta has unanimously approved its Implementation State Property Plan (Pad). This urban planning tool, one of the first of its kind in the Campania region, aims to balance tourism and public access by designating 30% of the coastline for free beaches and 70% for concessions across the Alimuri, Marina di Meta, and Purgatorio areas.
