Sorrento to host 2026 World Buffalo Congress

Sorrento has been selected to host the 14th edition of the World Buffalo Congress (WBC 2026) from October 28 to 31, 2026. This marks the first time in twenty years that the global event returns to Italy, following previous editions held in Caserta in 1997 and 2007.

The congress is organized by the University of Naples ‘Federico II’, the Consorzio di Tutela della Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP, and the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Mezzogiorno. It aims to bring together researchers, veterinarians, breeders, and industry professionals from over twenty countries to discuss scientific innovation, technology, and sustainable production.

With an estimated 220 million buffaloes worldwide, the event highlights the economic and social importance of the species. Italy leads the scientific contributions for the upcoming congress with 82 abstracts, followed by India and Pakistan. The Hilton Sorrento Palace has been chosen as the headquarters to accommodate the expected influx of over 1,500 delegates.
