SOS Costa Brava calls for joint management of Baix Empordà coastline

The federation SOS Costa Brava is calling for urgent improvements in the management and protection of natural spaces along the Baix Empordà coastline. The organization is advocating for a joint management model that integrates both terrestrial and marine environments through a shared, sufficient budget.

SOS Costa Brava highlighted significant economic disparities between municipalities. While larger towns like Palamós and Palafrugell benefit from tourism and nautical sector revenues to manage coastal pressures, smaller municipalities such as Mont-ras face the same environmental challenges with far fewer resources. This imbalance is particularly evident regarding the maintenance of safety and anchoring buoys, which are frequently subject to sabotage during the summer months.

The federation is demanding the immediate approval of Management Plans and Bodies for protected natural spaces. They also emphasized the need to enforce regulations protecting seagrass meadows, specifically in the Gulfet bay, Palamós bay, and Cap de Creus Natural Park, while calling for the conservation of other marine habitats like brown algae forests.
