SOS Racisme reports discrimination at Côte d'Azur private beaches and clubs
SOS Racisme conducted a large‑scale testing operation at 23 private beaches and 17 nightclubs on the French Riviera. Test groups identical in appearance except for skin colour or ethnicity – first a group of Black or Arab‑looking patrons, then a group of white‑looking patrons – were sent to the same venues. The association says the first groups were often turned away with the excuse that the venue was “full”, while the second groups were admitted a short time later.
The findings indicate discriminatory treatment at roughly one in six beaches and one in three clubs. SOS Racisme announced it will file complaints against the establishments involved, citing unequal access for tourists and locals on the Côte d'Azur, including incidents reported in Juan‑les‑Pins.
