In the fifth game of the 67th Oii Title match held in Tokushima, Fujii defeated challenger Takumi Ito in 93 moves. Fujii utilized an unexpected strategy to overcome Ito's Right Silver formation, securing his third win in the seven-game series.

In football, the Emperor's Cup second round saw mixed results for J-League clubs. Gamba Osaka advanced to the third round after a 2-0 victory over Rayllac Shiga, driven by two goals from Takashi Usami, including a notable 25-meter free kick.
