Sotheby’s has secured the art collection of American cable magnate Ted Baum and his wife, Ruth Baum, for an auction estimated to exceed $100 million. The collection comprises more than 130 works by prominent American and European artists.
Key highlights include a Mark Rothko painting on paper and a 1964 Ed Ruscha painting, both estimated between $10 million and $15 million. Other significant pieces include works by Roy Lichtenstein, Joan Mitchell, Tom Wesselmann, Alberto Burri, Lucio Fontana, Yves Klein, and Piero Manzoni. Several works, including pieces by Warhol and Burri, are valued between $4 million and $6 million.
The auction is scheduled to begin with a dedicated evening sale on November 16, followed by a day sale on November 17, with additional works appearing in various sales throughout next year. Highlights will be displayed at Sotheby’s showrooms in London, Hong Kong, Paris, Los Angeles, and New York.
Ted and Ruth Baum were noted philanthropists; a gallery at the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach is named in their honor. Ted Baum passed away in 2021, and Ruth Baum passed away this year.
