Sotiria Hospital radiotherapy center nears completion

The new radiotherapy center at Sotiria Hospital in Greece has reached its final stages following the official handover of the 3,500-square-meter building. The project, valued at 30 million euros and funded through the Recovery and Resilience Facility, is intended to house a day hospital unit, a new CT scanner, and various laboratories.

Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis noted that the project previously faced significant challenges, including legal disputes between companies, bureaucratic hurdles, and pressure from the European Commission to cancel the project due to concerns regarding its strict completion timeline. However, the ministry proceeded with the development.

A decision from the Administrative Court of Appeals has now cleared the way for the signing of a contract to supply two linear accelerators. Installation of this essential equipment is expected to begin immediately, with the center projected to be fully operational and inaugurated within approximately five months. The facility aims to enhance oncological care and reduce patient waiting times.
