Sotiris Kalyvatsis discusses satire and Radio Arvyla's exit from ANT1

Actor and presenter Sotiris Kalyvatsis has commented on the departure of the satirical show ‘Radio Arvyla’ from the ANT1 television station. Speaking on the program ‘Protos Kafes me tin Zina’, Kalyvatsis addressed the challenges facing satire in Greek television, emphasizing that freedom of speech is a fundamental prerequisite for the genre.

Kalyvatsis expressed concern that satire is tending toward extinction in Greece due to increasing restrictions and censorship. He noted that when broadcasters face pressure or external messages, they often choose to limit satirical content to avoid friction.

Reflecting on his past collaboration with Antonis Kanakis on the show ‘AMAN’, he noted that while interventions occurred, they were typically resolved quickly. He also mentioned the non-renewal of his show with Giorgos Mitsikostas on Action 24, linking these instances to a broader trend of restricting caustic and satirical commentary in the current media landscape.
