Sotogrande develops polo-driven economy projected to exceed 300 million
Sotogrande and the municipality of San Roque are developing a specialized polo-driven economy, a phenomenon referred to as ‘Chukkanomics’. This economic model, similar to the ecosystem established in Argentina, integrates the entire value chain of the sport.
The local economy includes breeders, professional players, specialized caretakers, veterinarians, trainers, transporters, and providers of equipment and nutrition, alongside tourism and real estate sectors. Sotogrande serves as a major European hub, hosting the International Polo Tournament with its Bronze, Silver, and Gold cups.
The region attracts international investment and professionals from the Americas, Asia, and the Middle East, who maintain stables in Europe to participate in continental championships. Projections suggest this polo-related economy could exceed 300 million by 2030.
