Soufiane El Bakkali takes second in 3000m steeplechase at Silesia Meeting

Moroccan runner Soufiane El Bakkali finished second in the 3000m steeplechase final at the Silesia Meeting, part of the Diamond League series. El Bakkali, who holds the best time for the event this year, recorded a time of 8:04.61. He finished behind Ethiopian runner Gudana Gimechew, who won the race with a time of 8:02.74.

Fellow Moroccan athlete Salah Eddine Ben Yazid secured third place on the podium with a time of 8:05.08. Other Moroccan participants, Mohamed Tendouft and Mustapha Fayed, finished in tenth and fifteenth place, respectively. This result marks El Bakkali’s only defeat in the 2026 Diamond League season, following three previous victories.

In the men’s 1500m final, Moroccan runner Anas Saai finished eighth with a time of 3:31.91, while American Ethan Strand won the race in 3:30.77. The Silesia Meeting serves as a critical qualifying stage for the Diamond League finals in Brussels and Zurich.
