Souleymane Faye joins Lorient on loan with €6.5 million purchase option

FC Lorient announced the signing of 23‑year‑old Senegalese winger Souleymane Faye on a season‑long loan from Sporting CP, with an option to buy for €6.5 million. The deal follows earlier interest from Brest and allows Lorient to assess the player before a permanent transfer.

Faye, who arrived at Sporting CP in the winter window after the club paid €6 million to Granada, struggled for game time, recording only 161 minutes across nine appearances. He has one senior cap for Senegal and previously excelled at youth level, winning the Africa U‑20 Cup of Nations. His contract with Sporting runs until 30 June 2030, giving the Portuguese side a strong negotiating position.

Lorient described Faye as an explosive attacker capable of playing both wings and the forward line, highlighting his speed, dribbling and one‑on‑one ability. The club expressed confidence in its reputation for developing young talent and looks to the player to boost its offensive options this season.
