Souli and Filiates municipalities join Greek relocation subsidy program
The municipalities of Souli and Filiates have been included in a Greek government program providing a 10,000 euro subsidy for families relocating to areas facing severe demographic challenges. The initiative is part of the National Demographic Action Plan managed by the Ministry of Social Cohesion and Family, with payments administered through OPEKA.
Applications are expected to open via an electronic platform in October, following the issuance of a Joint Ministerial Decision. The subsidy is available to all Greek citizens regardless of age or income, provided they have filed tax returns for the last three years. To qualify, applicants must prove relocation through ownership, lease, or provision of housing by a first- or second-degree relative, designate the new location as their primary residence, and enroll their children in local schools.
Recent legislative amendments have expanded eligibility to include Greek residents of the European Union and removed the requirement to work specifically within the relocation area, making the program accessible to retirees, the unemployed, and remote workers.
