Soundgarden to perform halftime show at Seahawks season opener
Soundgarden will perform a special halftime show during the Seattle Seahawks' NFL season opener on Wednesday, September 9, at Lumen Field. The performance marks a rare live appearance for the surviving members—Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd, and Matt Cameron—following the 2017 death of frontman Chris Cornell.
To fill the role of lead vocalist, the band has recruited Taylor Momsen of The Pretty Reckless. Momsen has a history with the group, having performed at their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction and various tribute concerts. Joining the set is Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, who will also perform the U.S. national anthem prior to kickoff.
The game features the Seahawks hosting the New England Patriots. In addition to the halftime show, the Seahawks have announced a pre-game concert featuring country artist Luke Bryan. The band is also reportedly nearing completion of an album featuring eight unreleased vocal tracks recorded with Cornell.
