Soundtrap launches support for third-party effects VST plugins

Soundtrap, the cloud-based digital audio workstation (DAW), has announced support for third-party effects VST plugins. This update allows creators to use licensed professional effects via the Soundtrap desktop version, which then syncs with the platform's cloud ecosystem. This enables users to listen to their creations using these effects across mobile, tablet, and web sessions.

In collaborative environments, remote partners can hear the VST effects in real time, even if they do not possess the same plugin. If both collaborators hold a license for a specific VST, they can both edit using the effect within the same shared project. Soundtrap plans to introduce virtual instrument plugin capability later this year.

To mark the launch, Soundtrap is partnering with Antares to offer users a free month of the AutoTune plugin. Per Emanuelsson, founder and CEO of Soundtrap, stated that the move aims to provide more creative power and marks a “step change in collaborative music production.”
