Sourav Ganguly and wife receive death threats in Kolkata

Former Indian cricket captain and Cricket Association of Bengal president Sourav Ganguly, along with his wife Dona Ganguly, have received death threats via letters. A formal complaint was lodged at the Thakurpukur police station in south Kolkata by Ganguly’s private secretary, Tania Bhattacharya.

The investigation follows the receipt of two letters at Ganguly’s office on Monday that contained explicit threats to “eliminate” or “finish” him, his wife, and his staff. While threatening communications had reportedly been arriving for approximately six months, they were initially dismissed as personal resentment from disgruntled individuals. However, the escalation to explicit threats of violence prompted the family to seek police intervention.

Kolkata Police are currently investigating the sender’s identity and motive. Preliminary findings suggest the letters may have been sent via courier from the Belgharia area in the North 24 Parganas district. Investigators are examining courier trails, mobile numbers, and SIM card movements to identify the responsible party.
