Source BioScience selects Sectra to connect NHS with specialist pathologists

Source BioScience UK Ltd has entered into a three-year agreement with Sectra to implement an advanced digital pathology workflow service. The partnership utilizes the Sectra Image Exchange Portal (IEP), a cloud-based, vendor-independent platform, to connect National Health Service (NHS) organizations with external specialist pathologists.

In its first year, the deployment aims to digitally route up to 60,000 pathology cases. The initiative is designed to establish national telepathology networks in the UK, helping to address consultant shortages and reduce reporting backlogs within the NHS. By providing a seamless digital pathway, diagnoses can be delivered directly back into the NHS's own records, eliminating the need for the physical transport of glass slides.

Source BioScience currently supports more than 85 NHS trusts and private clinics, with histopathology facilities located in Nottingham, Chichester, and Cambridge. The integration aims to facilitate easier access to subspecialists who may be located at different organizations.
