Souss-Massa Regional Council session postponed after political boycott

The Souss-Massa Regional Council session scheduled for October in Taroudant was postponed after a failure to reach a legal quorum due to a widespread political boycott. Members from several parties, including the Authenticity and Modernity Party, the Istiqlal Party, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces, and the Progress and Socialism Party, were notably absent.

Participants cited objections to the session's agenda, specifically the inclusion of projects and agreements proposed by the Wali of Souss-Massa, Said Amzazi, without sufficient prior consultation. Disputed items include agreements related to employment support, investment, and funding for national security and national recovery services in Agadir Ida-Outanane.

The Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP) issued a statement clarifying that the boycott was an individual action by certain members and does not represent the official position of the regional party leadership. Meanwhile, reports suggest the boycott may be linked to broader political tensions following recent legislative elections and internal party dynamics.
