South Aegean issues weather safety guidelines and reports demographic growth

The South Aegean Region has issued safety guidelines for citizens and visitors ahead of the winter season to prepare for severe weather, including storms and gale-force winds. The Civil Protection and Climate Crisis Directorate advises securing loose objects, disconnecting electrical appliances during lightning, and avoiding flooded roads or contact with metal objects.

Separately, regional Governor Giorgos Chatzimarkos highlighted that the South Aegean is defying Greece's national demographic decline. According to ELSTAT data, the Cyclades and Dodecanese islands are seeing more births than deaths. Chatzimarkos attributed this growth to a strong real economy and record-low unemployment, noting that tourism serves as the economic backbone that allows young people to remain on the islands and start families.
