South Aegean Region allocates 2.8M euros for new mental health centers

The South Aegean Region has announced a 2.8 million euro investment to establish two new mental health day centers in Kos and Syros. The funding, sourced from European resources, is being allocated to the Ministry of Health to support two years of operation for these facilities.

The center in Kos, with a budget of 1.4 million euros, will provide comprehensive care for individuals with dementia and Alzheimer's. It is designed to serve up to 85 beneficiaries, offering medical monitoring, psychosocial care, and creative activities. To assist those unable to travel, three mobile teams will provide home-based care.

In Syros, an additional 1.4 million euros will fund a center dedicated to children, adolescents, and adults with autism and neurodevelopmental disorders. This facility will operate with extended hours and be staffed by a multidisciplinary team. It will also utilize mobile teams to extend services into the home environments of beneficiaries. Both centers aim to provide education and counseling to families and caregivers.
