South Africa Announces 36‑Member Squad for 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Championships in Lagos

South Africa has unveiled a 36‑member team to compete at the 2026 Commonwealth Fencing Federation Championships in Lagos, Nigeria. The squad blends seasoned épée specialists Sergey Losevskiy – a former Russian‑capped fencer who now captains the men’s épée side – and Alexandra Lancaster, the first South African woman to advance beyond the pool stage at the senior World Championships, with a large contingent of younger athletes making their international debut.

President of the Fencing Federation of South Africa Louise Lombard said the roster balances youth and experience, noting that several development fencers from rural areas are travelling abroad for the first time thanks to club funding. The team will contest veteran épée, senior épée (six men and five women), senior foil (four athletes) and an Under‑23 division comprising eight épéeists, four foilists and two sabreurs. South Africa heads to Lagos after previously hosting the Commonwealth Junior Fencing Championships and aims to build on that success with a strong showing.
