South Africa blacklists 75 contractors over two years
Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson has announced that 75 contractors have been blacklisted and removed from the National Register of Contractors over the past two years. This follows a recent resolution by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) on 15 October 2026 to remove an additional 13 companies due to misrepresentation in their applications to upgrade registration grades.
The removed companies include RTZ Construction and Projects, Shumani Development, Magagamela Trade and Projects, Exxeding Grace, Yem Yem Projects and Plant Hire, BBM Khanye Holdings, Lethabo Africa Engineering, TMR Industrial Solutions, Moriel Infrastructure Group (Pty) Ltd, Salinkata Trading (Pty) Ltd, King Tar Construction, Batho Vanhu Construction, and Ithembalenkosi (Pty) Ltd. These firms held various registration grades ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 9.
Minister Macpherson noted that this enforcement marks a significant shift from previous decades; between 2002 and June 2024, only one contractor was blacklisted. The CIDB's actions aim to protect public funds, ensure infrastructure safety and quality, and restore confidence in procurement processes by ensuring companies possess the qualifications and financial capacity they claim.
