South Africa economic issues stem from state failure, says Dr. Ishmael Yamson

Economist and MTN Ghana Board Chairman Dr. Ishmael Yamson has attributed South Africa’s economic difficulties to state failure and poor economic management. Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, Dr. Yamson argued that the country’s economic challenges would persist even if all foreign nationals were to leave the country.

Dr. Yamson criticized the South African government for holding immigrants responsible for economic hardships, warning that such an approach risks undermining efforts toward African integration and trade. He expressed deep concern regarding xenophobic attacks against African migrants, noting that these developments are a significant worry for Ghana and the wider continent.

Reflecting on historical ties, Dr. Yamson highlighted Ghana’s past role in supporting African liberation movements, including the fight against apartheid in South Africa, through financial support and training for freedom fighters.
