South Africa: EFF member Aaron Makola found dead in Delmas

On 30 July 2026 the Gauteng Political Killings Task Team located the body of 51‑year‑old Aaron Makola, a member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), in a bush near Delmas, Mpumalanga. Makola had been reported missing on 10 July after his vehicle was found abandoned in Bronkhorstspruit.

National Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said preliminary investigations indicate Makola was shot dead before being dumped in the bushes and that his family has positively identified the remains. The task team, which took over the case on 20 July, said the inquiry is at an advanced stage and is working to identify and apprehend both the perpetrators and any possible orchestrators, although a motive has not yet been established.
