South Africa fuel prices projected to rise in September

South African motorists are facing significant fuel price increases in September, according to predictive data from the Central Energy Fund (CEF). The projected hikes affect all major fuel categories, with diesel expected to see the most substantial impact.

Predictions indicate that 93 unleaded petrol could rise by approximately 83 cents per litre, while 95 petrol may increase by about 94 cents per litre. Diesel prices are projected to rise sharply, with estimates suggesting increases between R2.87 and R3.07 per litre for different grades. Illuminating paraffin is also expected to rise by roughly R2.24 per litre.

The potential surge in diesel costs poses economic risks, as the fuel is critical for freight, logistics, agriculture, mining, and construction. Higher operating costs in these sectors could lead to increased prices for food and other consumer goods. These fluctuations are driven primarily by international oil prices and the Rand/US Dollar exchange rate.
