Ndifuna Ukwazi, an activist organization, has applied for leave to appeal the eviction, arguing there is no direct evidence linking occupiers to crime. The City of Cape Town has stated it will oppose the appeal, citing concerns over cable theft, drug dealing, and over 100 reported attacks on cyclists in the area. Transnet has also noted that the properties are necessary for its financial recovery plan.
