South Africa named Country of Honour at Pujiang Innovation Forum
South Africa is participating as the Country of Honour at the 19th Pujiang Innovation Forum in Shanghai, China, from 11 to 14 September. This marks the first time an African nation has received this designation.
A delegation of scientists, researchers, and innovators, led by Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Prof. Blade Nzimande, will attend the forum to discuss emerging technologies and strengthen international cooperation. The delegation aims to promote Africa’s science, technology, and innovation (ST&I) agenda, specifically the African Union’s ST&I Strategy for Africa (STISA 2034).
The forum participation coincides with 28 years of diplomatic relations between South Africa and China. This follows the 9th Bi-National Commission held in March 2026, which focused on advancing modernization, industrial development, and technological progress between the two nations.
