South Africa police shoot dead three ATM bomb suspects, arrest officer

Police from South Africa's National Intervention Unit (NIU) engaged a suspected ATM‑bombing gang in the North West province after tracking them from Zeerust to a safe house in Magogoe, Mahikeng. In the ensuing shootout three suspects were killed and two others, including a police officer, were arrested. Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh confirmed the arrests and said that about 10‑12 suspects are believed to be involved, with others still at large. Firearms, an undisclosed amount of cash and explosives were seized from the scene.

The operation follows earlier attempts to thwart similar attacks in the region, and authorities said community information has been crucial in identifying the network.
