South Africa Secures Major Energy Investment Commitments in China
South Africa’s Electricity and Energy Minister Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa led a delegation to Beijing for the South Africa‑China Electricity and Energy Investment Conference. The mission aimed to attract Chinese investment to support the country’s Integrated Resources Plan 2025 and modernise its energy infrastructure.
The delegation reported a pipeline of interest from six original equipment manufacturers, a green‑hydrogen project where Sasol commissioned Envision to design a system for its Sasolburg plant, and a Memorandum of Understanding between South Africa’s National Radioactive Waste Disposal Institute and the China National Nuclear Corporation to cooperate on nuclear‑waste technologies. Technical visits covered ultra‑high‑voltage transmission, green power for data centres and other advanced energy solutions, with the goal of translating these insights into actionable project pipelines.
South African officials said the agreements provide a clear roadmap to accelerate high‑impact energy projects, bolster industrial expansion and help stabilise the national grid while moving toward cleaner energy sources.
