South Africa targets 3% growth and 1 million jobs by 2030

President Cyril Ramaphosa has launched the third phase of the Government-Business Partnership, setting a target to achieve at least 3% economic growth and create one million jobs by 2030. Speaking in Johannesburg, the President emphasized that economic recovery must translate into tangible improvements in living conditions, rising incomes, and job security for South African households.

Phase three will focus on driving inclusive, labor-intensive growth by prioritizing sectors with high job-multiplier effects, including mining, agriculture, infrastructure, and tourism. Adrian Gore, chair of Business Leadership South Africa, noted that the mining sector, in particular, holds significant potential for scaling to boost GDP and employment.

The partnership aims to build on previous successes, such as the elimination of loadshedding and improvements to the national logistics system, to foster an environment where confidence leads to investment, production, and ultimately, better lives for citizens.
