South Africa weather: rain in coastal areas and warnings for wind and fires

South Africa is experiencing highly variable weather conditions, with significant warnings issued for damaging winds and veld fire risks. Coastal regions, including Cape Town and Gqeberha, are facing rain showers and cooler temperatures, with Cape Town seeing a 100% rain probability.

Inland areas such as Johannesburg, Durban, and Polokwane are reporting clearer skies. However, several regions are under Level 2 damaging wind warnings, specifically affecting areas like Pofadder, Prince Albert, Calvinia, Beaufort West, Sutherland, and Laingsburg. These winds pose risks to settlements, transport routes, and high-sided vehicles, while also causing reduced visibility due to blowing dust.

Additionally, a Level 10 veld fire warning is in effect for Postmasburg, De Aar, Griquastad, Groblershoop, Prieska, and Kathu. Due to high fire danger index levels, authorities warn that fires could develop and spread rapidly, potentially causing damage to property and loss of life.
