South African basketball clubs prepare for BAL 2027 qualification

South African basketball clubs are preparing for the Road to the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2027 qualification cycle. Following their 2026 Basketball National League championship success, the Soweto Panthers Basketball Club has been formally registered by FIBA Africa as South Africa’s representative for the continental qualification pathway.

In a separate domestic development, the Johannesburg Giants have secured their second consecutive Basketball South Africa National Clubs Championship title. The Giants completed an unbeaten 4–0 tournament run, highlighted by a 99–57 victory over MBB. This championship performance positions the club to also pursue opportunities within the BAL 2027 qualification competition against clubs from across the continent.
