South African Cabinet Says All Citizens, Including Afrikaner Emigrants, Welcome Home

At a cabinet meeting in Pretoria, Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni reaffirmed that every South African, irrespective of race or political views, will always have a home in the country. The statement was made in response to reports that white South Africans who have moved to the United States under claims of a "white genocide" are being denied U.S. visas, a situation linked to the Trump administration’s refugee cap of 17,500.

The resettlement programme, launched in October 2025, has seen about 6,066 South Africans relocate, many of whom now face financial hardship, reliance on crowdfunding, and stranded status after visa rejections. Freedom Front Plus member SJ du Venage, for example, is awaiting a decision while living in a rented seaside home. The rapid exodus has also strained animal shelters with surrendered pets. The cabinet called on all South Africans to reject racial mobilisation, work together to address lingering socio‑economic challenges, and uphold the gains of democracy. South Africa’s ambassador to the United States, Roelf Meyer, is engaged in diplomatic discussions to ease bilateral tensions.
