South African clubs drawn in CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup
South Africa’s top football teams have been paired in this season’s CAF club competitions. Orlando Pirates will open their Champions League campaign against Mauritania’s La Cure Waves in the first preliminary round scheduled for 4‑6 September, with the return leg on 11‑13 September. Reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns receive a bye to the second preliminary round and will face either Angola’s Wiliete SC or Seychelles’ Foresters FC for a place in the group stage, with matches set for 16‑18 October and the return on 23‑25 October.
Kaizer Chiefs will enter the Confederation Cup in the second preliminary round, meeting the winner of Zambia’s Red Arrows versus Madagascar’s FC Rouge. Durban City, qualifying for their first continental appearance, will face Burundi’s Rukinzo FC in the opening preliminary round, also slated for early September. These draws determine the routes South African clubs must navigate to reach the lucrative group stages of Africa’s premier club tournaments.
