Sidney Hill faces legal and trauma costs after Pinetown shootout

A fundraising campaign has been launched to support Sidney Hill, a 53-year-old single father from Pinetown, KwaZulu-Natal, following a violent encounter with alleged hijackers on October 9.

During the incident, which occurred as Hill was leaving his property with his children, armed suspects reportedly blocked his vehicle and opened fire. Dashcam footage shows Hill returning fire to protect his children. KwaZulu-Natal police confirmed that one suspect was fatally wounded during the exchange, while the other suspects fled the scene.

The BackaBuddy fundraiser, titled ‘Sidney Hijacking Survivor’, aims to raise R500,000 to assist with legal expenses and professional trauma counselling for Hill and his children. Police have opened investigations into attempted murder, attempted carjacking, and an inquest.
