South African figures call for action against gender-based violence

South African rapper Nasty C has called on the government to intervene in the country’s ongoing cycle of gender-based violence and femicide. Following the discovery of nine women’s bodies in the Ekurhuleni area, the artist used social media to urge decision-makers to implement visible changes to ensure national safety.

In a similar push for action, activist Nkosikhona Ndabandaba, known as Phakela Umthakathi, has challenged men to take greater responsibility for community safety. Ndabandaba emphasized that the fight against violence cannot rely solely on law enforcement and offered men’s support to assist police and protect women and children in their communities.
