South African government urges community policing after fatal shooting
The South African government has called on citizens to increase participation in Community Policing Forums (CPF) to combat rising violence. This appeal follows a fatal shooting in Reiger Park, East of Johannesburg, where four people were killed, including two police officers who were allegedly ambushed while on a crime prevention patrol.
Deputy Government Spokesperson William Baloyi emphasized that eradicating crime requires close collaboration between law enforcement and local communities. The acting police minister is scheduled to visit Reiger Park to focus on strengthening these community-police interactions.
