South African Kwaito star L’vovo Derrango advances stroke recovery and mental‑health initiative
South African Kwaito artist L’vovo Derrango (real name Thokozani Ndlovu) suffered a minor stroke on 23 December 2022 while performing in Ndwedwe, KwaZulu‑Natal. The episode left the left side of his body weakened and affected his speech, forcing him to pause his music career for rehabilitation. He reports substantial progress: he has regained mobility, can speak and walk unassisted, though his left hand remains weak.
Supporters have raised roughly R200,000, which Derrango plans to channel into a mental‑wellness project that will fund therapy, counselling and broader mental‑health education. He described the initiative as a way to use his experience to help others facing depression, anxiety and the challenges of recovery.
Reflecting on the entertainment industry, Derrango said that success often brings public praise, but true support appears during hardship. He also noted that his faith has strengthened through the ordeal, and he now seeks to share his testimony to encourage others.
