South African learners prepare for 2026 Matric exams

As the 2026 academic year enters its final stretch, nearly 900,000 South African Matric learners are preparing for the National Senior Certificate examinations. Experts emphasize that managing psychological pressure is as critical as academic study. Psychologists note that the period is often characterized by high expectations regarding future careers and university placements, which can trigger anxiety, self-doubt, and imposter syndrome.

According to the Department of Basic Education, Term 4 of the 2026 school year begins on 6 October and concludes on 9 December. This ten-week term contains no public holidays, providing an uninterrupted period for completing the curriculum. Following the term, administration days are scheduled for 10 and 11 December before the official end of the academic year.
