South African municipalities announce EPWP employment opportunities

South African municipalities are offering various employment opportunities through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP).

The Garden Route District Municipality is recruiting 22 seasonal firefighters for a four-month period from December 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027. Applicants must be unemployed youth residing within the Garden Route District and possess certifications in Firefighter 1, Hazmat Awareness, and First Aid Level 3. The application deadline is October 20, 2026.

In Mpumalanga, the Msukaligwa Local Municipality has increased its EPWP recruitment to 75 posts for unemployed youth, women, and people with disabilities. These six-month, fixed-term contracts offer a monthly stipend of R4,800. Successful candidates will be deployed to various municipal activities, including waste management, parks, cemeteries, and traffic technical teams. The application deadline for these positions is September 23, 2026.
