South African Police dismiss Crime Intelligence head Feroz Khan
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has dismissed Major General Feroz Khan, the deputy head of Crime Intelligence, following a finding of misconduct. The dismissal follows an expedited disciplinary inquiry that found Khan guilty of misconduct and bringing the police service into disrepute.
Khan had previously attempted to block the disciplinary process through the Labour Court, but his urgent bid was dismissed. SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe stated that ‘no member, regardless of rank or position, is above the law or the applicable disciplinary framework.’
Ian Cameron, chairperson of parliament’s portfolio committee on police, noted that Khan had repeatedly used litigation to delay the process. While the dismissal has been finalized, Khan’s legal team has confirmed they intend to challenge the removal. Additionally, criminal proceedings and matters before the Madlanga commission regarding Khan are expected to continue.
