Authorities in South Africa are investigating a series of murders following the discovery of nine women's bodies in the Ekurhuleni municipality over a two-month period since July. The latest victim, a woman believed to be in her 30s, was found on September 17 in Dawn Park, Boksburg, partially unclothed and wrapped in a sheet.

Most victims were aged between 20 and 40. Several bodies showed signs of sexual violence. While police are investigating whether the killings are the work of a single perpetrator or a group, they have not yet established a formal link between all nine cases. A suspect was previously arrested in connection with a murder in Kempton Park in July, but has not been linked to the other deaths.

The wave of killings has sparked widespread fear and public protests, including memorial runs in Johannesburg. One victim, Elizabeth Moselakgomo, was found dead after disappearing while out for a run. President Cyril Ramaphosa has ordered police to leave ‘no stone unturned’ in their pursuit of justice, as the country grapples with high rates of gender-based violence.
