South African Revenue Service sets EMP501 deadline for 31 October

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has issued an urgent reminder to employers to submit their 2026 Employer Interim Reconciliation Declaration, known as the EMP501, by the 31 October deadline.

The reconciliation covers the six-month period from 1 March to 31 August 2026. It requires employers to reconcile payroll information, including Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE), Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) contributions, and Skills Development Levy (SDL) amounts. Additionally, employers must ensure that employee records and IRP5/IT3(a) certificates are accurate and complete.

SARS has cautioned against last-minute submissions, noting that validation errors or rejected filings can cause delays. Employers are advised to verify their submission status via the PAYE Dashboard to ensure the process is successfully completed. This filing season includes updates to the EMP201 and EMP501 processes, new source codes, and enhancements to the e@syFile Employer software. The emphasis on accurate declarations aligns with recent focus on the sustainability of public finances following the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement.
