South African universities announce new postdoctoral fellowships

South African academic institutions have announced new postdoctoral fellowship opportunities.

The University of Cape Town’s Holistic Drug Discovery and Development Centre (H3D) is offering a fellowship focused on a drug repurposing project. The research will utilize AI/ML-based drug screening and experimental validation to identify antiviral medicines against virus families including Flaviviridae, Coronaviridae, and Filoviridae.

The University of the Free State is inviting applications for its Flourishing Life Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, commencing in October 2026. This fellowship, which offers R300,000 per annum, is intended for doctoral graduates in Law, Humanities, and Social Sciences. Research areas include socioeconomic rights, democratic resilience, feminism, and ecological flourishing.
