South Africa's Madlanga Commission summons Major-General Feroz Khan

The Madlanga Commission has issued a Regulation 10(6) notice ordering Major‑General Feroz Khan to appear and testify on 1 July 2026. Khan had sought urgent interdicts from the Gauteng High Court to stop the commission and the South African Police Service (SAPS) from accessing electronic devices seized from him on 10 May, but he withdrew both the in‑camera request and the interdict bid, allowing the commission to proceed. The commission will keep the devices available for investigation and expects Khan to remain before it until excused by Chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga.

In parallel, the commission is probing a large‑scale drug‑trafficking operation linked to alleged police informant Tumelo Nku, who is accused of colluding with Scania and Transnet employees. Investigators say more than 700 kg of cocaine, worth about R300 million, was hidden in a shipping container that left São Paulo on 30 May 2021 and arrived at Durban Harbour on 11 June 2021. Several police officials, including senior traffic and K‑9 unit officers, are alleged to have facilitated the consignment. The inquiry continues to examine the extent of police and corporate involvement.
