South Africa's SAFLA and AMIE SA Sign Cooperation Deal to Boost Meat Trade Logistics

The South African Freight and Logistics Association (SAFLA) and the Association of Meat Importers and Exporters of South Africa (AMIE SA) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation to tackle logistics, port‑operational and regulatory challenges affecting the country’s meat trade. The partnership will identify recurring constraints, exchange evidence and develop practical proposals for engagement with government agencies, aiming to improve cargo flow, rail and road connectivity, border processes and veterinary approvals.

SAFLA Vice Chairman Jonathan McDonald said logistics is “fundamental to food security, trade competitiveness and economic growth,” while AMIE SA CEO Paul Matthew stressed that coordinated certification and inspection processes are essential for South African exporters to meet international demand and sustain domestic supply.

The MoC seeks to create a unified industry voice to address bottlenecks, enhance supply‑chain resilience and ensure food‑safety compliance, thereby supporting export growth and market access for South African meat producers.
