South Africa's Teach Me 2 makes TIME Top EdTech List as Entrepreneurship Support Lags

South African tutoring platform Teach Me 2 was named to TIME's "World's Top EdTech Companies 2026" list. The company, founded by Nick Miller, has delivered more than one million tutoring lessons to over 10,000 families and operates in more than 50 countries, offering online and in‑person tutoring from Grade 1 to university level.

At the same time, the 2026 Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) report gave South Africa a low National Entrepreneurship Context Index score of 3.9 out of 10, placing the country among the weakest performers worldwide. Researchers said the entrepreneurial ecosystem suffers from fragmented government programmes and a gap between policy and implementation, despite strengths such as a sophisticated financial sector and growing digital adoption. The report recommends a single digital platform to streamline information on support programmes.
