South Africa's Women Leaders Highlighted During Women's Month

South Africa marked Women’s Month in August by showcasing the impact of two prominent female leaders. Dr Aobakwe Segwe, a leading radiologist and co‑founder of the Centre of Medical Imaging, has driven advances in diagnostic healthcare, emphasizing that quality care should not depend on geography and mentoring the next generation of medical professionals.

Fionna Ronnie, chief marketing officer of retail at Clicks Group, spoke about the need for curiosity, courage and continuous reinvention in the fast‑changing retail sector. She argued that true empowerment goes beyond representation, urging businesses to give women meaningful influence, mentorship and opportunities to shape strategic decisions.

Both women underscored the broader message that leadership is defined by impact and purpose, not titles, and called for sustained investment in women’s development across South Africa’s health and retail industries.
