South Alabama defeats Southeastern Louisiana 39-14 in season opener

South Alabama opened its 2026 football season with a 39-14 victory over Southeastern Louisiana at Hancock Whitney Stadium in Mobile, Alabama.

Quarterback Bishop Davenport contributed significantly to the win, throwing for 154 yards and one touchdown while adding a rushing touchdown. The Jaguars established an early lead, scoring 19 points in the first quarter, including a 26-yard touchdown pass from Davenport to Brendan Jenkins and a 1-yard run by Trae’von Dunbar.

South Alabama’s rushing attack totaled 241 yards, led by PJ Martin with 69 yards on 18 carries. While Southeastern Louisiana attempted a comeback in the third quarter with two touchdown passes from Kyle Lowe to Lonnie Shinn, South Alabama responded with 17 unanswered points to secure the win. Kicker Davis Little successfully converted all three of his field-goal attempts.
